What you're seeing here is a tesla coil which is basically creating alternating current electricity which can be tuned to specific notes, some really smart people have hooked it up to midi somehow and can play huge sparks of electricity like an instrument. Yes, the sparks and the sound are not just synchronized, they are the same thing.
