#10 back at it
As a lead up to my new project teaching the synth and sonic techniques that I use, I am reinstating this old well meaning experimental sound project. make new sounds is all about forcing myself to consistently try to come up with new ways of exploring and making sounds outside of the confines of making songs. I'm going to dive right back in.
This sound was made in the demo software for the nord modular G2 keyboard that I have been using heavily since I got it last spring. It's a pretty nice digital emulation of a modular synth and I'm going to use it to kickstart my sound school project because a) it's free to download the demo software and b) it provides an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of synthesis that allows a deep degree of programming possibilities with a fairly simple to grasp interface and a quick learning curve.
This sound is basically the result of combining the first bunch of concepts that I'm going to dig into when I launch the tutorials/lessons which are basically
1) waveform selection
2) envelope manipulation
3) filter manipulation
4) oscillator sync
5) frequency modulation
6) LFO modulation
7) sequencing
8) delay processing
I pretty much messed around with each of these elements until I got something that was somewhat interesting to me.
Pretty soon I'll be able to delve deeper into explaining what these elements do and how I use them to get the results I do, but for now, give a listen.
